New Echota Print Shop | Cherokee Nation

The Cherokee Phoenix newspaper was printed in this print shop located in New Echota, the capital of the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee Phoenix was a bilingual newspaper, and was the first newspaper printed in a native language. Members of the Cherokee Nation were able to spread information regarding legislation, council meetings, and efforts to resist Georgia's illegal encroachment on Cherokee lands.
