Natural Trap Cave

Follow paleontologists as they explore an ancient cave that holds clues to what Wyoming looked like during the last ice age. They have to employ everything from single-rope caving techniques to ancient DNA analysis and radiocarbon dating to get as much data as they can during their three-year expedition.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Students will be able to identify and use vocabulary words.
  • Students will explain how the fossil record indicates chronolgy.
  • Students will explain how the fossil record indicated change over time.
  • Students will examine real fossils or images of fossils and make hypotheses about what the fossils can tell scientists.
  • Students will explain why paleontologists study fossils
  • Students will explain how fossils provide evidence that environments change over time.
