Chief William McIntosh | Creek Nation Virtual Field Trip

Chief William McIntosh was half Creek, half Scottish. As chief of the Lower Creek Nation, McIntosh angered his tribesmen by consistently siding with the United States rather than his own people. He was in favor of moving the Creeks toward an economy of agriculture and slaveholding, and even sold the remainder of Creek lands to the State of Georgia, which officially removed the Creeks from the state.
