Leader of the National American Woman Suffrage Association | Carrie Chapman Catt
Explore how the 19th Amendment came to be by looking at the strong women who created and lead the National American Woman Suffrage Association and the women’s suffrage movement, in this video adapted from Iowa PBS’s documentary Carrie Chapman Catt: Warrior for Women. Catt became active in the newly formed National American Woman Suffrage Association, or NAWSA. When Susan B. Anthony retired as president, she chose Catt as her successor. This change in leadership marked a new era for the women's suffrage movement, an age of restructuring and reorganization.
