The Florida State Legislature fired the President of Florida A & M College, the racially segregated college for African Americans. Legislators did not want Florida A & M College teaching the liberal arts or sciences. Administrators and the President of Florida State College for Women were concerned that a similar attack from the legislature might ban the teaching of science, sociology and other subjects.
