Big & Small? We can Sort it All! | Clifford the Big Red Dog

Find what is alike and different while exploring objects.

After a wild day of mishaps leaves Clifford wishing he weren’t so big, Emily Elizabeth reads Clifford Gulliver's Travels as he drifts off to sleep in “The Big Red Dream.” He dreams he is a small dog, and is at first excited to be able to do all the things he couldn't before, until Emily Elizabeth needs help...BIG HELP! When he wakes up, he is glad to be back to his big, regular size. Join Clifford and explore the fun of comparing all sorts of sizes and colors.

In this lesson, students will sort objects into groups by size and color. They will learn how to identify the special attributes of objects and how they can be similar (alike) and what makes them unique (different).

Through these activities, students will:

  • Identify similarities and differences of items (comparing them by size).
  • Identify similar and different attributes of pompoms.
  • Seek help from peers and adults.
  • Build social skills working with and beside peers.
  • Practice fine motor skills.
  • Sort pompoms by color in muffin tins.
