Voyage of Adventure
In 2016, Nashville photographer John Guider took a two-month, 1,000 mile journey along Tennessee's waterways with the goal to follow, as closely as possible, Col. John Donelson's 1779 journey from Virginia to what would become Nashville. His journey illustrates both the beauty and the danger of frontier Tennessee. It addresses the reasons for moving west, the danger and opportunities there, and the settlement of Nashville. It includes the motivations behind European westward movement and Native American resistance.
