Teaching the Vietnam War: A Webinar

In this professional development seminar, educator and filmmaker Bill Siegel uses The Vietnam War, a documentary series by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, as the basis for a group discussion with middle and high school teachers. The seminar models a Socratic classroom discussion as it applies to nonfiction media. As Ken Burns notes in the introduction to the video, many educators have shared the challenges they face teaching the Vietnam War, in part because of the emotionally challenging questions involved. As Burns says, “We think it is crucial for teachers to pose those very difficult and thought-provoking questions, and we believe this webinar helps further that effort.”
