The Winter Count: Keeping History Alive in Pictographs | National Museum of the American Indian

Students will explore the innovative oral and history-keeping traditions of the Nakota people, who created the Lone Dog Winter Count. Once they've learned about the tool, students will create a monthly pictograph calendar of their own, documenting a year of personal history.
