Symbolism and Personification in The Outsiders | The Great American Read
In these two activities, students will discuss symbolism and personification in S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. In "Baby You Can't Drive My Car," students will focus on the symbolism of cars and what having a car means to different characters in the book, and will write a short essay explaining their reasoning. In "Personification and The Outsiders: A Way to Make Something Come Alive," students will work in small groups to define personification, and close read examples of personification from the book.
