William Horsfall’s Medals of Honor, c. 1895 & 1904 | A State Divided
The Medal of Honor is the highest recognition given to U.S. soldiers. William Horsfall won the Medal of Honor when he was just 15 years old. He is the youngest person ever given this honor. When he was 14 years old, Horsfall ran away from home. He joined the Union army as a drummer. At age 15, he saved a wounded officer during battle at Corinth. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery.
