At the time of the Civil War, there were many political parties to choose from. Parties had split over slavery, war, and the Union. One of the groups was called the Unconditional Union Party. This handbill was created to support them. They believed in preserving the Union at any cost. They wanted to end slavery. They also wanted to crush the rebels. Many people in Kentucky thought these were radical ideas.
