Rose of Sharon Quilt, c. 1843 | A State Divided

This quilt was pieced together by Eliza Ann Raney when she was a young girl. The family's slaves did the more difficult task of quilting, or stitching, the pieces together. This quilt was sewn together at night, by candlelight. Slaves had to do many chores like this, even working at all hours of the night.
