Jefferson Davis Home Association Certificate, c. 1907 | A State Divided

After the war, a group of Southern veterans formed the Jefferson Davis Home Association. Certificates like this one were given to members of the group. Their goal was to build a monument to Davis. He was the only president of the Confederacy. The group bought a large plot of land and raised money to build the statue. It was built in Kentucky, near where Davis was born. It is still one of the tallest monuments in the country.
