This bandana was owned by Henry Lane Stone. He promised both of his parents that he would not join either army. But, he ended up joining the Confederate army with his friends. At one point, he was a prisoner at Camp Douglas. He escaped from there, tying his boots around his neck with this bandana. Stone’s bandana was not part of an official uniform. Many Confederate soldiers wore homemade uniforms or their own clothes.
