Coverlet, c. 1860 | A State Divided

Fabrics and blankets gave comfort to soldiers during the war. Men used them for warmth and padding when they were sleeping in tents or outside. A Confederate soldier traded the Crain family this coverlet for a wool blanket. He was one of 100 soldiers who camped on the Crain family farm in Wolfe County. They set fire to the haystacks on the farm when they left.
