Leading up to the Berlin Games of 1936, Germany offered a compromise to include Jews in the games, but there were enough loopholes that this compromise was easily ignored. Hitler insisted on expanding building for the games, hoping to impress the world. The United States protested the German discrimination against the Jews, and Brundage went to Germany to make sure that Jews were being treated fairly.
