Will the Air Be Clean Enough to Breathe?
Will the Air Be Clean Enough to Breathe?
Air quality can suffer due to both natural and anthropogenic (human-caused) events. Poor air quality can negatively affect human and environmental health.
You will explore the flow of pollutants through the air. Air pollution can be caused by visible components (particulates) and by invisible components (chemicals). Air quality depends on pollutant emissions, wind direction, and precipitation events.
Throughout this module, you will explore real-time air quality data with maps from the United States EPA. You will run experiments with computational models to investigate how pollutants flow in the atmosphere and look at how factors such as wind, sun, rain, geography and pollution affect air quality. By the end of the module you will be able to predict the effect of human development on a region's future air quality.
