The Diary of Anne Frank 3: The Suffering of Millions

Students examine how filmmaking techniques—such as music, voice-over narration, and camera cuts—build tension and capture the viewers’ hearts and minds in this excerpt from the 2010 MASTERPIECE version of The Diary of Anne Frank. In this dramatic scene, we watch as the Frank family and other residents of the secret annex meet the fate they have dreaded throughout their two years in hiding: they are discovered by the police. As students explore the music, voice-over narration, and camera cuts in the scene, they also consider the ways in which the filmmakers interpret the impact and message of the diary. This resource is part of the MASTERPIECE Collection.

Caution: Guns are in the closing scenes.
