Cricket in India and Pakistan: The Greatest Rivalry on Earth

Discover cricket and the greatest rivalry in all of sport through intimate stories shared from the streets of Delhi, India, and a tutorial on the rules of play, in this media gallery from Away Games. When India and Pakistan play cricket it’s no longer just a game. The two south Asian neighbors were once a single nation living under British rule. Divided when they gained their independence from Great Britain in 1947, India and Pakistan have since fought four major wars and dozens of minor skirmishes. One thing that unites people on both sides of the border is a love of cricket—a game both peoples learned from the British. Painful memories arise each time the two teams face off on the pitch. Sometimes things get rough. But cricket between India and Pakistan also creates good will and helps keep hopes for peace alive.
