Portrait of Thomas Edison, Inventor and Entrepreneur, Circa 1889

Thomas Edison was in his forties when this historic photograph was taken. Born in 1847 in Milan, Ohio, Edison became a prolific inventor, successful businessman, and world figure. The holder of a record 1,093 successful U.S. patents, he applied for his first one (for an electrographic vote-recorder) in 1868 at the age of 21 and his last (for a holder for an article to be electroplated) the year he died. This resource is part of the Thomas Edison Collection.
