In 1886, Delano graduated from Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced during the Spanish American War, recruited & trained nurses during WWI, and helped combat the 1919 influenza outbreak in the U.S. She was a member of the Red Cross and Superintendent of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.
