Steve White was born in Mason County, Kentucky, which borders the Ohio River. In 1976, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art education with a concentration in figure drawing and figure painting. Most of his paintings reflect life on the American frontier, showing scenes such as the Buffalo Trace (the buffalo migration route that extended from northern Kentucky to Indiana), fur trappers, and Native American hunting parties.
