The Baroque Period: Bach to Bach | Music Arts Toolkit

University of Kentucky professor of organ and sacred music Schuyler Robinson discusses and demonstrates the pipe organ and music from the Baroque period. In the first section, he performs an excerpt from Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.” In the second section, he explains the inner workings of a pipe organ. In the third section, he discusses the organ and a Baroque instrument. In the fourth section, he discusses characteristics of Baroque music, including contrast and improvisation and the dynamics of the organ. He also performs the opening and concluding sections of Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.”
