The Secret Life of Scientists & Engineers | Rudy Tanzi
Meet neuroscientist Rudy Tanzi in this video profile from NOVA’s “The Secret Life of Scientists & Engineers.” As a high school student, Rudy's main interest was rock and roll; however, he realized that being a doctor would be the key to his future success as well as his parent’s approval. Rudy's rebellious nature eventually served him well when he decided to investigate his theory that a single gene could be the cause of Alzheimer’s disease—against the advice of his graduate school mentors. It turns out that Rudy was right. His science notoriety led to a chance conversation with guitarist Joe Perry about the similarities between science and rock music. This in turn landed Rudy a “secret career” outside the lab: playing keyboards for Aerosmith and the Joe Perry Project.
