The Secret Life of Scientists & Engineers | Crystal Dilworth

Meet neuroscientist Crystal Dilworth in this video profile from NOVA’s “The Secret Life of Scientists & Engineers.” As a youngster, Crystal was constantly moving and dancing to music. She struck a deal with her father: if she pursued her bachelor’s degree, she could spend summers taking classes at the Alvin Ailey dance school. After graduating from college, she fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer in NYC. But the lure of science was too much. She left the city to earn her PhD in chemistry at Caltech, studying the human brain’s molecular basis for nicotine dependence. Dance and theater are still a big part of Crystal’s life: she has choreographed stage productions at her alma matter and is passionate about the interconnectedness of art and science and the importance of creativity. This resource is part of the NOVA: Secret Life of Scientists & Engineers Collection.
