East India Company in India
East India Company in India
The British Corporation the East India Company arrived in India shortly after it was incorporated in 1600. It wasn’t until the eighteenth century, however, that the company truly had a strong presence in specifically Indian trade. Through the East India Company, the British gradually colonized portions of India. This colonization brought war to much of the region, as the heads of the Indian states resisted the imposition of European culture. A series of wars erupted until the British company held control of much of the country. In 1858, after a large Indian rebellion against the company, the corporation was dissolved and India came under the direct control of the British Queen and her government.
