Setting: Eatonville, Florida

In this media gallery from the American Masters film Zora Neale Hurston: Jump at the Sun, students will learn about Eatonville, Florida—Zora Neale Hurston’s hometown and the setting of her most famous novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. Using video, discussion questions, student activities and graphic organizers, students will examine the importance of setting in storytelling.

Note: Pay close attention to the archival footage logo on the bottom left side of the video. It indicates Zora Neale Hurston’s original footage!
