Mangroves Encroach on Florida Salt Marshes | In the Grass, On the Reef

This video will show diversity among mangrove plants and how they adapt to a changing climate. After a series of relatively freeze free winters on the northern Gulf coast, cold intolerant black mangroves have started to multiply in salt marshes. Dr. Randall Hughes has noticed this in the Saint Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve. She is conducting an experiment into how well black mangrove propagules (sort of but not quite seeds) from both local and south Florida trees grow in Saint Joseph Bay. She hopes to determine whether some mangroves are better adapted to colder climates.
