Fear and the Choices Oysters Make | In the Grass, On the Reef

This video will help students understand the two choices oysters have to make in their lifetimes and how these choices affect the oyster’s ecosystem as a whole.Oysters make two choices that impact their health and the services they provide: where they settle as larvae and whether or not they feed (and clean the water through filtration).  Predators and environmental conditions play a large role in determining whether either is a good choice. If oysters don’t feed they may stunt their growth and they aren’t providing vital services to their habitat. Other animal species within the ecosystem rely on the water filtration from oysters for clean water.
