Training Trees

Learn how phylogenetic trees represent relationships among species with this video that supports NOVA’s Evolution Lab game. Each branch of a phylogenetic tree represents a single species, and the evolutionary history of that species can be traced back through the rest of the tree. Split branches arise when one species diverges into two or more distinct species. Ultimately, a single phylogenetic tree that relates all life on Earth can tell us stories about deep time, sudden change, and adaptation.
