Hear Nixon announce his strategy to invade Cambodia and justify the need for continued assault in this speech given on April 30th, 1970. The relative inability of Cambodia to protect its borders made it an ideal spot for North Vietnamese to launch attacks against combined U.S. and South Vietnam forces. Coming on the heels of a prior announcement of planned troop withdrawal, many saw this incursion as an extension of an already unpopular war. The fallout from this speech sparked protests and outrage across the country and indirectly led to the Kent State shootings.
