School-to-Prison Pipeline: Dr. Victor Rios | Dropping Back In

Dr. Victor Rios dicusses his research in juvenile justice, the policing of America's schools, and the school-to-prison pipeline in this video from the Dropping Back In series. Rios also talks about youth who are "pushed out" of school, rather than dropping out, and outreach efforts in that area. In February 2012, the PBS program Frontline aired a follow-up story to one they had done more than a decade earlier that featured Rios as a teenage gang member who left the streets, returned to school, and eventually became a college professor. Dr. Rios is featured in Dropping Back In, both as a former dropout and as an author and expert in issues involving the education system failing poor black and Latino boys.
