A Neighborhood Expedition: Lesson Plans | Harriman Expedition Retraced
The Harriman Alaska Expedition of 1899 yielded a wonderful historical record, including a number of one-of-a-kind souvenir albums. In these albums one finds photographs, sketches, handwritten notes, guests lists. Students in any neighborhood can plan an expedition and, once back in the classroom, create their own souvenir album. In 1899 Edward Harriman assembled a distinguished team of scientists and artists and took them on a two-month survey of the Alaska Coast. In the Harriman Expedition Retraced, scientists, naturalists and artists are observing anew the sites visited by Harriman's scouting parties a century ago.
