World War II Veteran Frank F. Alston, Jr. - Army Air Corps | Georgia Oral History
Frank F. Alston, Jr., born in May of 1924 in rural Georgia, had a typical southern upbringing and enlisted in the Army Air Corps after graduation. Mr. Alston served as a technical sergeant and remembers flying the oldest bomber in his squadron, trying to bomb a bridge without bombing a nearby cathedral, feeling the presence of a higher power during a frightening and violent mission, and how a pair of socks kept him from getting a Purple Heart.
