A Member of the Family

In this video from Nature: Touching the Wild, naturalist Joe Hutto describes the intelligence of mule deer and how they treated him like a member of the family. In the segment, Hutto explains that mule deer are intelligent animals, with a natural curiosity. Hutto describes the first mule deer who groomed him and discusses why this signaled to him that she felt he was part of her family. He explains that mule deer do not randomly groom others and only groom family members. The segment concludes with Hutto demonstrating how the mule deer look up when he calls their names and come to him when he asks them to come over.
