Being a child in a military family is challenging, especially when moving may cause them to fall behind in school. In this episode of NJEA’s Classroom Close-up, students from military families receive tutoring through the They are Heroes Too program. Roland Rogers Middle School teacher and military wife, Terry Dougherty, started tutoring her own children and neighboring military families’ children. She soon realized the need to academically support military children extended beyond her street. After partnering with Stockton College and other volunteers, They are Heroes Too now provides summer tutoring  for over 100 military children to help ensure they are ready to learn when the school year commences!
