Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson brings together students, staff, families, the local community and veterans for an annual Honor our Vets service learning project and culminating Run/Walk fundraiser. In this episode of NJEA’s Classroom Close-up, students invite local veterans into their school and engage in oral history and letter writing projects that enable them to make personal connections with the veterans, their stories, and historical events. The project and run enable students to appreciate the importance of military service, recognize veterans as regular members of the community, and raise funds for local veteran causes.
