Gray Seals and People: Both Need Fish to Eat

Gray seal population in the Northeast has risen after federal protection prevents large-scale hunting. Conservation biologists place tracking device on seal to record its diving history, to discover its travel patterns, and to examine its foraging habits. Fisheries are in direct competition with gray seals for food supply. The role of gray seals in the marine environment is analyzed.
