Helen Dortch Longstreet | Georgia Stories
Known as the "Fighting Lady," Helen Dortch was a champion of causes ranging from the environment to civil rights. She put her heart, financial resources, persuasive words, and spirit into righting the wrongs of the world and altered the lives of Georgia citizens through her efforts. In 1894, she was appointed Assistant State Librarian, making her the first woman to hold office under Georgia's state government.
