Text complexity is a significant part of college- and career-ready expectations. In this lesson teachers will explore three instructional shifts for teachers and students, learn about the three-part model designed to help measure text complexity and how to analyze and select complex text. This lesson will introduce a set of tools you can use when analyzing complex text, including literary and informational text rubrics and other resource materials provided by the Tennessee Department of Education. You will also see Tennessee educators analyze sample texts to demonstrate how these tools work in practice.
