Viola Frey: Visual Arts (Sculpture)

Artist Viola Frey has handcrafted hundreds of larger-than-life clay sculptures during the last few decades of her life. She continued to produce new work with the help of her studio assistant Sam Perry, even when she was faced with serious physical challenges after suffering a series of devastating strokes. The studio has always been her home and her solace. Viola began producing on this monumental scale almost 30 years ago, at what is now called the California College of the Arts (CCA) where she both studied and taught ceramics. While there, she engineered new ways of working with clay. Original air date: February 2004.
