Richard Shaw: Visual Arts (Ceramics)
For more than 30 years, Richard Shaw's workplace is a studio set in the grove of redwoods in Fairfax, CA. Drawing and painting have been Richard's passions since childhood, and he later became interested in ceramics as he attended junior college. Shaw studied ceramics first at San Francisco Art Institute, then at UC Davis. His works are characterized by a generous use of color and whimsy. He often uses trompe l'oeil -- his works are designed to fool the eye. Shaw has been a ceramics professor at UC Berkeley for more than 15 years, and many of his students have adopted his techniques. Original air date: February 2005.
