This professional development module will explore student comprehension when speaking and listening, based on Common Core standards. Teachers model best practices for participation in collaborative conversation about grade level topics. Teachers will help students grasp what it looks like when rules for speaking and listening are not followed. Teachers will promote students' confidence in speaking through prompting and words of encouragement. Students will build on each other's talk in conversation by responding to the comments of others through multiple exchanges.
