The Photographer as Storyteller

Southern New Jersey is home to several historically black communities that were documented in a book and website, both called "Small Towns, Black Lives: African American Communities in South Jersey." Over a ten-year period, Stockton College professor and photographer Wendel A. White created photographs and text that together provide a complex look at the people, businesses, historic landmarks, landscapes, and other features that make up communities such as Whitesboro and Lawnside. This video goes on location with White, and meets some of the subjects of his photographs.
