Consistent Supervision and Ongoing Evaluation
Many districts are moving to a model in which skilled principal supervisors engage often with principals in their schools. These regular visits, coupled with evaluation based on rubrics, provide ongoing guidance to improve practice. This requires a manageable span of control for these principal supervisors, perhaps 10-12 principals per supervisor. Districts are balancing this type of drop-in supervision with more standard measures through quality review and by examining standardized test data to determine improved student achievement.
