Alien and Sedition Acts (1798) and Resource Materials

This is a facsimile of the 1798 Alien and Sedition Acts, four bills passed by the Federalists during the Quasi-War with France. They increased the residency requirement for American citizenship from five to fourteen years, authorized the president to deport those deemed a threat to national security, and restricted speech critical of the government.
