Social Security Act (1935) and Resource Materials

This resource group contains two facsimiles and a transcript of, and a background essay on the Social Security Act of 1935. This legislation, signed into law by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on August 14, 1935, established a system of old-age benefits for workers, benefits for victims of industrial accidents, unemployment insurance, aid for dependent mothers and children, the blind, and the physically handicapped.
