Allopatric Speciation

The Isthmus of Panama arose some three million years ago. Examine an image that depicts the research results of Nancy Knowlton of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, who has been studying how this geological phenomenon produced a speciation event. Populations of snapping shrimp whose ancestors were divided by the isthmus have diverged into separate species.
