In this video segment from Teachers as Learners, teachers work through two DNA lab activities. On the first day, participants conduct a dry lab. They study and discuss concepts in molecular biology by analyzing representations of DNA. On the following day they participate in a wet lab to gain hands-on experience working with the tools of molecular biologists. . After brainstorming approaches to conduct forensic DNA analysis of blood from a hypothetical crime scene, they begin the lab. When the learners make errors, the instructors explain that these are very relevant to real-world laboratories. Finally, the participants reflect on the effectiveness of their methods.
